Sermon Based Small Groups
Why Growth Groups?
The answer is simple:
- Christ followers are called to grow in faith. Faith is belief put into action!
- Christ followers are called to community. Our Growth Groups serve to foster a close, caring community accountable to each other in application of Spiritual Truth.
Ephesians 5:1 tells us “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children”. The discipleship process helps us imitate Christ as we seek to become fully devoted followers of Christ striving toward spiritual maturity.
Hebrews 6:1 - Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God. (ESV)
Hebrews 5:14 - But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil. (ESV)
Colossians 1:28 - Him (Jesus) we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. (ESV)
2 Timothy 2:15 - Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. (NASB).
How may one be diligent? The King James Version translates diligent as “Study.” When one studies, one is diligent to pay attention to the details, to read in context, and to pull from the Scripture what is there (not adding to or taking away). Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Tim 2:15 KJV)
Acts 17:11 - Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. (NASB). Paul tells us the Bereans were ”more noble-minded.” The Bereans are an example to all Christians. We must examine the Scriptures daily. To examine is not a cursory reading, but a diligent study of the Word.
